Project Direction Faculty Members

​Dr. James Mihelcic

(Samuel L. and Julia M. Flom Professor) currently manages externally-funded research projects valued at approximately $7.5 million of competitive federal funding.  He is a Fellow with Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP_ and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and has published four engineering textbooks (published by John Wiley and ASCE). He was a two-term member of EPA’s Charted Science Advisory Board, is a past president of AEESP and a recipient of two national education awards from AEESP, a Best Paper Award from the Environmental Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education, and an education award from the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEES).

Dr. Yu Zhang​

(Associate Professor) is co-PI on a recent NSF CRISP award titled “Integrative Decision Making Framework to Enhance the Resiliency of Interdependent Critical Infrastructures” and Institutional PI for the USDOT funded Center for Transportation, Environment, and Community Health (CTECH).  She is a member of the editorial boards for Transportation Research Part C, International journal of Sustainable Transportation, and International Journal of Transportation Science and Technology.  She also serves as committee chair for TRB Standing Committee of AV060.

​Dr. Qiong Zhang

(Associate Professor) is a recipient of an NSF CAREER for “Envisioning Integrated Wastewater Management through the Lens of Reverse Logistics” and PI on a recent NSF CRISP award titled “Integrative Decision Making Framework to Enhance the Resiliency of Interdependent Critical Infrastructures.”  Dr. Zhang has received a Southeast Region Education Award from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and a Best Paper Award from the Environmental Engineering Division of ASEE. 

Dr. Sarina Ergas​

(Professor) is a past Board member of AEESP and is a Fellow of WEF and AEESP.  She was a 2005 ASCE Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) Fellow, a 2007 Fulbright Fellow at the Technion Israel Institute of Technology, and received the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) Outstanding Mentor Award and William R. Jones Most Valuable Mentor Award from the Florida Education Fund.
